If I ever get a craving for chocolate or ice cream, this is where it’s at. We all know the typical chocolate ice cream at the local joint is quite the sugar trap. Well, once in a while it’s totally fine but this here is a recipe you can drink up every day and not feel bad. The secret ingredient in this healthy chocolate peanut butter shake is spinach!

Healthy Chocolate Peanut Butter Shake
I don’t know anyone who can eat all the salads every day AND enjoy it. So let’s hide our greens in something tasty. Chocolate shakes or smoothies are perfect for hiding greens and you feel like you’re actually sipping a dessert. Spinach is pretty much tasteless when blended with other ingredients. This healthy chocolate peanut butter shake will convince you to eat spinach everyday. And onto the sugar subject, we don’t need any! Bananas are so versatile and can sweeten just about anything without sugar. They make up a good ice cream too. Find my healthy ice cream recipe here.
Shakes and smoothies are easy to hide ingredients in. Sometimes I like to add beet root powder as well. I got it as a sample once and it is wonderful to add quickly for extra nutrients. You could also substitute any green (though some varieties might be more bitter). I haven’t had luck with kale as it is tough to break down.
Health Benefits
Banana
Bananas have tons of potassium which is great for heart health. Bananas also have magnesium to help make strong bones. Read my post on magnesium to find out more. Fiber is also a good benefit to note for ease of digestion.
Spinach
Spinach is packed with nutrients! It has antioxidants to prevent free radicals to form (which would decrease risk of cancer or early aging). It has vitamin K, vitamin C, manganese, folate, vitamin C, and it’s low in calories. Spinach is quite the superfood.
Cacao Powder
Cacao powder is know for its antioxidant profile. Antioxidants can protect us from damage done by toxins in the environment or food. There is also a good amount of iron in cacao powder. Most people buy cocoa powder at the store. They are relatively the same, cacao is more raw and cocoa is processed at a higher temperature and other additives may be added.
Fresh Flavors: A healthy chocolate peanut butter shake can be made with nutritious bananas for a creamy, cool treat.
