Gingerbread Greek Yogurt

Yogurt: the famed health food with probiotic appeal. Much to our surprise many yogurts are not healthy at all. The typical flavored varieties are full of sugar and not to mention super processed. This offsets the probiotic effect because sugar is the opposite of what your gut needs… Plain yogurt can be flavored and sweetened at home so many ways, but the gingerbread greek yogurt is one my favorites. It could be the obsession I have with molasses [you have to try it!].

For a healthy gingerbread greek yogurt, sweeten plain yogurt with blackstrap molasses (or regular) and add cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and vanilla for a delectable treat. I prefer less sweet snacks, so keep that in mind and adjust as needed for your own taste.

Gingerbread Greek Yogurt

I had never been a fan of gingerbread cookies during the holidays. I had never thought about wanting to eat that flavor in anything else either. Sure enough something comes about that’s delicious. Blackstrap molasses has a lot of iron and it tastes awesome. Apparently it also has beneficial minerals such as calcium, manganese, and magnesium. I’d much rather sweeten with that than refined sugar products because of the added minerals and actually beneficial.

Why greek yogurt?

Greek yogurt is good for those of us who can eat dairy products. Though it is not “healthier” than regular yogurt. I prefer greek yogurt because it is thicker and only whole milk yogurt. There is no point in taking the fat out of milk, that’s silly. I only buy plain greek yogurt because many of the flavors have added sugars and colors. Adding my own ingredients makes a huge difference in sugar content and healthfulness.

Keep in mind, low sugar or sugar-free varieties are JUST AS BAD. So don’t take this as a tip to find a low sugar packaged option.

Greek yogurt has vitamin B2 (riboflavin) that is important for red blood cell production, preventing headaches, eye health, and even making iron more available (great combo with the iron-rich molasses!)

It also has vitamin B12 which works with folate to help use iron in the body AGAIN. Let’s just use this when we are low in iron. Do you know how common that is? B12 even helps with DNA synthesis. It is so important and it is only found in animal products.

Can I simply say what a relief to discover an individual who truly understands what
they are talking about online. You certainly know how to bring a problem to
light and make it important. More people must look at this and understand this side of the story.

It’s surprising you are not more popular because you most certainly have the
    gift.

This is an interesting little recipe. I normally go very fruity/herby or citrusy when I use greek yogurt. I haven’t tried it in this way and I think I’d like to. Good job.
