There is a healthier latte that my husband and I enjoy from time to time. We call it “fancy coffee” that we make with our Ninja coffee bar. A healthier latte is simply a latte without artificial ingredients. I have for you a wonderful blend of real, healthy ingredients to make a fancy coffee at home.

Of course it’s okay to treat yourself once in a while. Don’t feel guilty about it. Sometimes that $5 latte is just what you need.
Essentially all the chain coffee shops are similar in what they serve and what is in the drinks, unless you have a local coffee shop that serves real, wholesome ingredients. The “healthiest coffee” would be black coffee because there is nothing else in it. Here are three reasons you should start making your coffee this way and at home rather than at your favorite popular coffee joint.
Ingredients in creamers
- The dry creamers don’t even have dairy; rather, they are filled with corn syrup solids and other artificial ingredients. These are terrible and you should stop using dry dairy-free creamers. Check your ingredients in the refrigerated types first as some of those may be okay.

- Food Babe goes on about this, but basically the same as the above. Nothing you want in your body and the sugar content is over the roof. Coffee is just one of many surprising sources of huge amounts of sugar.

Ingredients in a Healthier Latte
Honestly, most of the time I make my coffee with only coconut oil and molasses. A special treat is when it’s with milk or maple syrup. I am less likely to choose something sweeter.
Whole milk, coconut milk, or almond milk – Depending the milk chosen, it can have it’s protein and
Black strap Molasses ( you can sub with extra maple syrup) – Blackstrap molasses is so tasty. It has tons of iron and even calcium so I am okay with eating it as a sweetener. It’s probably one of the better options I’ve seen.
Maple Syrup/Honey – These options are less refined than the sugar counterparts. I personally am fine with just molasses in my coffee. Better yet, don’t put any sweet in there.
Coconut Oil – I love coconut oil. Recently the AHA decided to tell us it was bad. It’s a real food and nourishing, so no. Also, saturated fat doesn’t cause heart disease. Coconut oil has a special type.
Why Coconut Oil in Coffee?
Before I get into my spiel, let me share with you an article that covers probably everything you would want to know about putting coconut oil in coffee. –> Coconut Oil in Your Coffee
Coconut oil is metabolized in such a way that it does not store as fat but instead provides lasting energy. The medium chain triglycerides in coconut oil apparently reduce aging and increase weight loss results. Pairing it with coffee is a nice addition. Coconut oil also helps boost the immune system and keep you feeling full. I talk more about coconut oil benefits in my Freezer Fudge post. Do not use too much coconut oil if you’ve never done it before (can cause gastric emptying.. if you’re not used to it!). Stick with the 1 tsp or less if you’d like and go from there. It is necessary to actual blend this otherwise you can have oil sitting at the top.
Fresh Flavors: Make a quick healthier latte with milk, coconut oil, and a healthier sweetener.
- 1 tsp coconut oil
- 1 tsp blackstrap molasses *may sub extra maple syrup
- 1 tsp maple syrup *could also use honey
- 1 dash vanilla
- 4 oz whole milk *sub coconut milk, almond milk
- 6-8 oz strong hot brewed coffee
- Brew coffee as directed by your coffee machine. Make it extra strong compared to usual
- Steam the milk. Whole milk will froth the best. If you have a frother, use that when it's ready. If not, then just blend it in with the other ingredients.
- Add all ingredients to the coffee and half of the milk. Blend with a hand blender or use a regular blender (it will be hot!!). I suggest doing this in a larger cup than you'd expect if using a hand blender, it can get messy.
- Top with the rest of the frothed milk and enjoy!

I have a coconut oil latte every morning. I make it using 1-2 tablespoons of coconut oil, Jersy cream full-fat milk, moka brewed coffee, and I mix it with a frother. It keeps me until lunch or dinner time. Been doing this for two years now. That’s my breakfast/brunch.

This looks like a lot of work just for some coffee but it looks worth trying. It does look like an expensive cup of coffee lol. Never heard of coconut oil in coffee though. Interesting recipe
